Pilot narrative

Verbatim, de-identified by NASA. Placeholders: ZZZ, X, Y.

Area familiarization flight with DJI Matrice 210 V2 RTK using Zemuse Z30 Camera in support of an event. Matrice failed to respond to RPIC instructions. sUAS climbed to approximately 75AGL flying NE to approximately 300 ft distance from departure point, then made an un-commanded left turn to a westerly heading departing at a high rate of speed. As it continued west, it began descending to 15AGL as it passed under a bridge across Location X then continued to fly under another bridge before RPIC regained limited control. RPIC was able to overcome the flight control problem and flew sUAS to Location Y. Return-to-Home (RTH) feature failed.

Analyst callback

Paraphrased notes from ASRS analyst follow-up calls with the reporter.

Reporter stated the UAS flew up to 0.5 miles away before they were able to regain control of the UAS and bring it in to landing. The reporter also stated the UAS gave no signs indicating what might have gone wrong before or during the incident but believes the cause to be an error with the GPS.
