01 /  Pilot designees

Checkride pathway · 14 CFR 183 Subpart B.

The designees pilots interact with directly. DPEs conduct pilot checkrides; DPREs test parachute riggers; DMEs test A&P mechanics. Sourced from the FAA Designee Information System at av-info.faa.gov.

02 /  Engineering / airworthiness designees

Manufacturing & engineering data · 14 CFR 183 Subpart C.

DARs issue airworthiness certificates. DERs approve engineering data — structures, powerplant, systems & equipment, acoustical, flight test. ODA holders are organizational delegations (Boeing ODA, etc.) approving whole programs.

03 /  Medical

FAA Office of Aerospace Medicine.

Aviation Medical Examiners conduct pilot physicals. The HIMS-AME sub-designation handles the FAA's Human Intervention Motivation Study pathway (substance recovery medicals).

04 /  Instructors & mechanics

From the Airmen Database.

Not strictly "designees" but commonly searched together. Sourced from the FAA Airmen Releasable Database — the same nightly feed we use for tail-number lookups. ~425,000 active certificate holders.

05 /  Organizations

Repair stations, schools, ODA.

Part 145 repair stations, Part 141 pilot schools, and Part 147 A&P schools from the FAA Air Agency Directory. Each gets a directory page with location, ratings, and links to the certificated personnel on file.

Method.

Sources

FAA av-info.faa.gov for designees (DPE/DAR/DER/etc.). FAA Airmen Releasable Database for instructors and mechanics. designee.faa.gov for AMEs. FAA Air Agency Directory for repair stations and schools. Each refreshed at the agency's own cadence (DAR/DER ~weekly, Airmen DB nightly).

Per-individual page

Every designee gets a profile at /atlas/designees/<cert#>/ with FAA-published data — name, location, privileges, expiration, FSDO. Cross-linked to the airport pages within their service radius and to any ratings they hold under other categories (a person who's both a DPE and a CFI surfaces the union).

Per-airport cross-link

Each /atlas/airports/<ICAO>/ page surfaces the closest 10 designees by category — DPEs, AMEs, A&Ps within 25 nm. Find a checkride examiner near KAPA. Find an A&P near KOSH.

Claim flow

Designees can claim their profile via email-verified ownership: submit cert # + name; we email the address on file in the FAA Airmen DB to confirm. Once verified, the claimant edits bio, photo, contact, scheduling. Verified-rating badge on the profile. Free for individual designees.

Privacy note: the FAA Airmen Database publishes home addresses by default — that's the agency's policy. We mirror that disclosure but offer a per-individual opt-out via the claim flow. If you're listed and want your address suppressed, claim your profile and toggle visibility. We don't expose raw email addresses in HTML.
