Sterling Municipal Airport, also known as Crosson Field, is a general aviation airport located 3.5 miles west of the center of the City of Sterling at 16562 Hwy 14. The Airport is staffed 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (0700 to 1600 hours) with a person on call during non-staffed hours. The primary runway (15/33) was rebuilt and lengthened in 2010. Runway 15/33 is asphalt, 5200' long and 75' wide, equipped with MIRL, REILs (on dusk to dawn), PCL and PAPIs. Runway 03/21 is turf 2,500' long and 50' wide with reflective runway end markers (red and green), no edge markers. This runway is in fair condition. The airport’s elevation is 4,038’. The Unicom frequency is 122.80. The AWOS frequency is 118.525. The phone number is (970) 522-0417 Services Services include full service aviation fuels 100 LL and Jet-A (premixed. The Jet-A truck has both over wing and single point capability. Various aviation oils are available. No Charts are available. The terminal is equipped with WIFI, a computer for flight planning and a lounge area. A courtesy car is available for local use. Overnight hangars are generally available for a nominal fee. Operations to be aware of Agricultural spraying operations can be in progress close to or in the vicinity of the airport. The Ag spray planes fly off of a private air strip 3 miles west of Sterling Municipal Airport. Military aircraft (helicopters) sometimes operate in the area. There is an approved aerobatics box in the vicinity of the airport. There have been as many as three aerobatic competitions during the year and the box may be open for practice during daylight hours. The aerobatic box is identified on the aerial photo by the yellow highlighting.
