Glider flight training, intro rides and "free" FAA Checkrides for all Glider category ratings including CFI-Glider. Owner / Master CFI / Designated Pilot Examiner BURT COMPTON has over 50 years of aviation experience to share. "Rusty Pilot" course available. Soaring (year-round) began here in 1960. Located on the Marfa Plateau at 5,000' msl near the Davis Mountains and Big Bend National Park. No oil here, just a huge aquifer of water underground. "Marfa Gliders Soaring Center" is a national aviation "Landmark" with a plaque next to the big hangar holding 6 gliders (sailplanes) and a wall full of gliding memorabilia.
