About
Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club (RTH) is chartered by Black Pilots of America, Inc. (BPA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization EIN 86-0852905. RTH has a mission to introduce underserved and underrepresented youths to the world of aviation, engage their minds in practical applications of STEM, ground them in history, inspire them towards aerospace related career paths and help them learn to fly. RTH is an action-based organization that serves communities and promotes aviation excellence and safety among its membership. RTH operates two public outreach events: RTH Aviation Experience and RTH Aviation Day Camp. RTH also operates a year-round youth program and is a partner in the Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pathways. The RTH Youth Program engages, exposes, educates and empowers students in grades 6-12 in more than just flying. Students participate in RTH Aerospace Science Camp and national challenges like Rover Observation and Discoveries in Space (ROADS). RTH also conducts formal flight training and pilot development with the assistance of Red-Tailed Hawks Aviation Academy, Inc., which is also a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization EIN 87-1787328. Red-Tailed Hawks Flight Lesson for Youth (FLY) trains 8-10 cadets annually. We also sponsor two scholarships for our membership: Jasper Harris, Jr. Aviation Scholarship and Jesse D. Hayes, Jr. STEM Scholarship. RTH also supports BPA national programs. Each year RTH competes in Operation Skyhook and has flown home victorious in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The hallmark of the national education effort is the BPA "Les Morris" Summer Flight Academy. Both events have been in operation since 1971. On November 23, 2013, RTH held its first meeting and provided discovery flight on December 7, 20213. Since then, RTH has grown to be the largest chapter of BPA and impacts youth nationwide. RTH has engaged with over 9,000 students and produce over 70 pilot certificates and ratings. Come fly with us!
