About

Since 1947, the Santa Barbara Flying Club has made flying less expensive, more convenient, less hassle, and more fun for generations of pilots in the Santa Barbara, California area. Our club currently has 55 members, running the gamut from those brand new to flying to commercial pilots and retired air force aviators. The Santa Barbara Flying Club has four aircraft at SBA: a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, a Vans RV-9A, a Grumman Tiger AA-5B, and a Piper PA-32/300 Cherokee 6. All planes are IFR certified. The Skyhawk and Cherokee 6 have a GNS 430W, the Tiger a GTN650Xi, and the Vans RV-9A is /U. As a not-for-profit flying club, we effectively rent these airplanes to ourselves at cost, so club members are guaranteed the best value for their money. We use tach time billing. It's the most accurate way to account for our actual expense, and amounts to as much as a 30% discount when compared with Hobbs billing, especially for those who are practicing maneuvers or "Touch & GOs" and typically have the power back much of the flight. Club aircraft may be conveniently scheduled online by our members for trips as long as 10 days, with no daily minimum flight time requirement. This makes them perfect for cross country flights. Each member receives their own set of keys to each aircraft. This eliminates any last minute hassle of having to check in and out at a rental desk. Shared aircraft ownership means the airplane is waiting for us when we arrive… 24/7. Latest Rates and Dues can be found by visiting our website.
