About

If the hassle and limitations of renting aren't working, and the cost of full ownership is not practical for you, the Yellow Bird flying club may be just the ticket. Located at the well equipped, relaxed and friendly KDUH (Toledo Suburban Airport), we are about 1/4 mile North of the Ohio line in Michigan. A non-profit club, we provide both an opportunity to enjoy flying and the comradery of other pilots Our aircraft is a very nice, low time, 1967 piper Cherokee (PA28-140 with 160 upgrade). It's quite attractive with nearly perfect paint, a refreshed interior, and a "low-mid" time engine. The aircraft is IFR capable with (NEW!!) Garmin GPS175 and Aspen E5 showing flight information in modern glass format. These are backed up by traditional boiler gage instruments with Stratus ADS-B and twin NAV/Com radios with CDI. Thus, the format is comfortable to both new and "seasoned" pilots alike. Applicants must have a clean history and typically at least private pilot certification. Members all have an equal fractional ownership of the aircraft and club assets, so there is a resalable buy-in fee. The fixed operating costs are equally distributed and paid via dues (currently $90/month), and flight time is currently only $100/hr (wet!). Fees are set annually by vote as required to cover costs. The aircraft is well maintained by the onsite FBO, although light duties (cleaning, hanger upkeep, etc.) is done by members. The aircraft has generally been flying only about 120 hours per year combined, so you can expect the airplane to usually be available to fly, even on short notice. There are no daily minimums and extended usage is typically allowed for occasional out of town trips-- so it’s almost as if it is your own airplane, but at far lower shared cost! Membership is full at 8, but openings occur occasionally and we can put you on a short list to hold a spot at no cost. Give us a call -- we promise not to bite and airplane talk is always welcome. Phone or text is best.
