Angel Aviation Sim Center Now open to the Merrill Field and the Anchorage aviation community to/for: 1. Maintain Instrument currency and proficiency to facilitate the proper response to inadvertent IMC (instrument meteorological conditions) and avoid a possible CFIT (controlled flight into terrain) accident. 2. In simulated actual conditions, pilots will refine instrument crosschecks to minimize over controlling the aircraft when actual Instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) are encountered. Teaching the cross checks to transition from IMC to VMC (visual meteorological conditions) at the bottom of an instrument approach when breaking out with runway in sight at decision altitude (DA) or minimum descent altitude (MDA). 3. Teaching and evaluating instrument emergencies, such as unusual attitudes high and low. Other emergencies include partial panel flight and IAPs. Some emergencies are too dangerous to practice in the aircraft, i.e., engine failures low to the ground. 4. For pilots flying mostly VMC operations, it is recommended that pilots consider one 2-hour session every 3 months to meet the IAP currency requirements. Leveraging the power of simulation pausing to take advantage of a “teaching moment” improves comprehension and mastery. 5. And finally, maintaining Instrument currency and proficiency in the Angel Aviation AATD will preclude the higher expense of an aircraft Instrument proficiency Check (IPC).
