Probable cause & findings

The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during landing which resulted in a ground loop.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that, while landing in a tailwheel-equipped airplane, he lost directional control after the tailwheel contacted the runway surface, resulting in a ground loop. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing rear spar, left aileron, and rudder. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
