Factual narrative

On March 8, 1997, at 1855 central standard time, a Cessna 441, N423TG, landed with the landing gear retracted on runway 35 at the Bruce Campbell Field, in Madison, Mississippi. The business flight operated under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 91 with an instrument flight plan filed. Visual weather conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The airplane sustained substantial damage. The pilot and the four passengers were not injured. The flight departed Drew, Mississippi, at 1800. According to the pilot, they received an instrument flight clearance to Madison. The flight and Air Traffic Control handling of the approach was normal. Upon arriving in the airport area, the flight was cleared for a visual approach. As the flight entered left traffic for the landing, the pilot reported that, he forgot to extend the landing gear during the final approach to land. The pilot also stated that there were no mechanical problems with the airplane. According to the pilot, he received an instrument flight clearance to Madison. During arrival to the airport area at night, the flight was cleared for a visual approach. The flight and Air Traffic Control handling of the approach were normal. The pilot reported that during the approach to land, he forgot to extend the landing gear. Subsequently, a gear-up landing was made.
