Probable cause & findings

the pilot's improper flare, which resulted in a hard landing and the nose gear collapsing.

Factual narrative

On February 21, 1998, at 1030 central standard time, a Cessna 210, N7398E, nose gear collapsed during landing at Hazel Green Airport in Hazel Green, Alabama. The personal flight operated under the provisions of Title 14 CFR Part 91 with no flight plan filed. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The airplane received substantial damage. The commercial pilot was not injured. The flight originated at Hazel Green Airport at 0930 central standard time. According to the pilot, he was performing a post annual check flight. He had a hard landing causing the nose gear to collapse and the propeller to strike the runway. The pilot reported that after a flight in close vicinity of the airport, he made a hard landing. This resulted in the nose gear collapsing and the propeller striking the runway.
