Probable cause & findings

The pilot’s high flare and failure to execute a go-around which resulted in a hard landing and runway excursion.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that while landing the tailwheel-equipped airplane, he flared high, and the airplane landed hard. The airplane subsequently veered off the right side of the runway, nosed over, and came to rest inverted. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left wing. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
