Probable cause & findings

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control while landing, which resulted in a runway excursion and collision with terrain.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that the airplane was at an excessive speed on final approach and landed hard. After the hard landing, the airplane bounced and touched down a second time. The pilot was unable to regain control of the airplane and it veered left off the runway and came to rest in a grassy area nose down. The pilot added that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions. Examination of the airplane by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed substantial damage to the empennage and right wing. Source: NTSB Aviation Accident Database Retrieved: 2026-02-12
