Aircraft involved

Probable cause & findings

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll.

Factual narrative

The pilot of the multi-engine airplane was landing and reported that upon touchdown, the airplane veered right towards the grass off the side of the runway. The pilot’s attempts to apply braking were ineffective, and the airplane impacted a taxiway sign before coming to rest adjacent to the runway. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the nose landing gear bulkhead and the fuselage structure during the accident sequence. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
