Factual narrative

On July 28, 1995 at 0930 central daylight time, a Rockwell International S-2R, N4182X, was substantially damaged during takeoff near Edna, Texas. The commercial pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the 14 CFR Part 137 aerial application flight and no flight plan was filed. In the Pilot/Operator report, the pilot stated that the left main gear collapsed during the takeoff roll "at about 65 mph." Post- crash examination of the aircraft and accident sight by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed that the aircraft came to rest in a ditch after striking a fence post with the left wing and farm equipment with the right wing. Both wings were structurally damaged. DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED FOR UNDETERMINED REASONS AND THE AIRCRAFT SWERVED OFF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN A DITCH AFTER STRIKING A FENCE POST WITH THE LEFT WING AND FARM EQUIPMENT WITH THE RIGHT WING.
