Probable cause & findings

The student pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during takeoff.

Factual narrative

The solo student pilot reported that, during takeoff, the airplane started to veer to the left. He attempted to recover with right rudder input but airplane continued to veer left, departed the runway and came to rest in a ditch against the perimeter fence. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the left lift strut. The student pilot reported no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the aircraft that would have precluded normal operation.
