The pilot’s improper landing flare, which resulted in a bounced, hard landing.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that after he "touched down the airplane bounced a couple times and that's w[h]ere the hard landing occurred". Subsequently, the pilot landed the airplane without further incident. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
