Factual narrative

On December 17, 2006, about 1045 Pacific daylight time, a Cessna 172, N19698, sustained substantial damage during the takeoff roll at the Boundary County Airport, Bonners Ferry, Idaho. The airplane is owned by Northern Air, Inc, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and was being operated as a visual flight rules (VFR) instructional flight under Title 14, CFR Part 91, when the accident occurred. The student pilot, the sole occupant of the airplane, was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a flight plan was filed for the flight. In a post accident written report, the pilot stated the airplane drifted left of runway centerline during the takeoff roll. The pilot stated corrective actions were applied, however the aircraft continued to drift on the icy runway and collided with a snow berm. The aircraft subsequently nosed-over resulting in substantial damage. The pilot reported the airplane drifted left of runway centerline during the takeoff roll.
