SAIB ACE-96-13 —
What is a SAIB?
A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is to advise operators of the Dornier Model 228 aircraft of the need to review the service information listed below. The Dornier 228 service document listed below references sixteen (16) Dornier Service Bulletins which provide for the continuing airworthiness of the aircraft by inspecting for and eliminating any corrosion found in the aircraft.
BACKGROUND: The Small Airplane Directorate, Aircraft Certification Service, of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducted a review of the Dornier Model 228 airplane service information as part of the Aging Commuter Airplane program. The purpose of the review was to evaluate each age related service bulletin to determine if further FAA action was necessary to ensure the level of safety desired for commuter operations. The options considered by the FAA included: mandated compliance by Airworthiness Directive (AD), various forms of notices, or no further action, if appropriate.
RECOMMENDATIONS: The service information letter identified in this document is not considered appropriate for AD action at this time, however, the FAA strongly suggests that all operators of the Dornier Model 228 airplane review the compliance of the service information listed below.
