SAIB ACE-99-17 —

SAIB ACE-99-17 Current Issued 04/02/1999 Diamond Aircraft Industries Inc DA20-A1

What is a SAIB?

A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

No. ACE-99-17 April 2, 1999

Published by: FAA, AFS-610, P.O. Box 26460, Oklahoma City, OK 73125 This is issued for informational purposes only and any recommendation for corrective action is not mandatory.

Introduction: The purpose of this Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) is to advise operators of an incorrect part call out in the Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC) for the Diamond Aircraft Model DA20-A1 aircraft.

Background: This SAIB is prompted by a report of an incorrect call out for the wing attach A-Bolt washers in the IPC for the Diamond Aircraft Model DA20-A1 aircraft. The washer identified in the IPC has the same outside diameter as the inside diameter for the hole in the attach bracket. Installing the wrong size washer would allow the A-Bolt to pull through the attach bracket. Diamond Aircraft has confirmed that the error is in the IPC only and that the design data for the Model DA20-A1 does call out the correct washer.

Diamond Aircraft has issued Alert Service Bulletin DA20-53-02 recommending an inspection to ensure that the proper size washers are installed on the A-Bolts. Diamond Aircraft is also in the process of revising the IPC to show the proper size washer.

Recommendation: In this SAIB, the FAA highly recommends, but does not require registered owners of Diamond Aircraft Model DA20-A1 comply with Diamond Aircraft Alert Service Bulletin DA20-53-02, Rev. 0, dated February 5, 1999.
