SAIB AIR-22-06R1 Current Issued 05/31/2022 Rev 1

What is a SAIB?

A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

1 FAA Aviation Safety SPECIAL AIRWORTHINESS INFORMATION BULLETIN SUBJ: Equipment/Furnishings SAIB: AIR-22-06R1 Date: May 31, 2022 This is information only. Recommendations aren’t mandatory.

Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) advises registered owners and operators of certain Transport Category airplanes of possible activation of the rupture disc assembly on certain evacuation systems. This SAIB affects airplanes having any rupture disc assembly with part number (P/N) B14268-1.

This SAIB is being revised to correct the part number for the rupture disc assemblies specified in SAIB AIR-22-06. P/N 14268-1 was identified; however, the correct P/N is B14268-1.

At this time, the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 39.

Background

The FAA has received a report of inflation valve/regulator assemblies installed on certain evacuation systems, which could have been equipped with rupture disc assemblies that may activate at a temperature below 160°F. Activation of the rupture disc assembly would allow the entire contents of the compressed gas contained within the reservoir to be vented to the atmosphere. Inflatable emergency equipment will not function with a depleted gas reservoir. The procedures for replacing affected rupture disc assemblies with part number (P/N) B14268-1 are described in the following Safran service information:  Service Bulletin 003-25-34, dated April 1, 2020.  Service Bulletin 003-25-35, dated April 1, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-115, dated April 1, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-116, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-117, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-118, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-120, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-121, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 004-25-122, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 005-25-30, dated April 3, 2020.  Service Bulletin 005-25-31, dated April 3, 2020.  Service Bulletin 005-25-32, dated April 3, 2020.  Service Bulletin 005-25-33, dated April 3, 2020.  Service Bulletin 006-25-07, dated April 2, 2020.  Service Bulletin 995-25-08, dated April 6, 2020.  Service Bulletin S.B. 707/720 101-25-06, dated March 10, 2020.  Service Bulletin S.B. 737 103-25-51, dated March 10, 2020.  Service Bulletin S.B. 747 104-25-16, dated March 10, 2020.  Service Bulletin S.B. 757 105-25-90, dated March 10, 2020.

Recommendations

The FAA recommends that all owners and operators of the affected airplanes incorporate the actions outlined in the applicable referenced service information at the earliest opportunity.

Paperwork Reduction Act Burden Statement

The FAA requests that owners and operators report any discrepant rupture disc assembly to the contacts provided below. The report should include the date the finding occurred, airplane model,

3 airplane serial number, and airplane registration number. Under the provisions of the Paperwork Reduction Act (44 U.S.C. 3501 et seq.), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has approved the information collection contained in this SAIB, and assigned OMB Control Number 2120-0731.
