SERVICE BULLETIN No. 0001 Subject: High Pressure Brake Master Cylinders Models Affected: PA-18 and PA-19 Series using STC #SA1245CE purchased from January 1997 to December 2000. Compliance Time : At the next regularly scheduled inspection not to exceed the next fifty (50) hours time in service. Approval: The technical contents of the Service Bulletin have been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Purpose: Field reports indicate excessive wear or fluid loss in the Cub Crafters, Inc. brake master cylinder. Left uncorrected, this may eventually result in impairment of brake control. Cub Crafters, Inc. has developed an improved brake piston and link modification kit. This Service Bulletin requires the installation of the brake cylinder modification kit which, when installed will remedy the condition described above. Instructions: 1. Remove the forward stick attach bolt and set the stick aside. 2. Remove the front seat lock pin and remove the front seat assembly. 3. Remove the master cylinder by removing the (10) screws at the front of the brake pedal assembly. Turn the cylinder slightly to remove the top screw. Remove the brake line from the master cylinder (or the bottom of the parking brake) and remove the master cylinder assembly. 4. Disconnect parking brake valve and oil filler fitting from the master cylinder. Remove piston and spring. 5. Inspect the master cylinder for signs of wear. Using 400 grit sandpaper, remove any scuff marks from the bore of the master cylinder. Use 600 grit sandpaper to achieve the final finish in master cylinder bore. 6. Clean the master cylinder thoroughly and reinstall the spring and new Cub Crafters, Inc. piston. Lube bore and piston with H5606 before assembly. 7. Reassemble in reverse order of step 1 through 4 using the new link. Seal all threads with Loctite 567 thread sealer. Bleed the brake and check for leaks Materials required: (2) each kit P/N C120755-K Availability of Parts: Cub Crafters will supply C120755-K at no cost if the installation is complete and the replaced parts are returned to Cub Crafters by July 1, 2001. Effective Date: This Service Bulletin is effective December 14, 2000 Summary: Please contact Cub Crafters, Inc. NOTE: If you are no longer in possession of this aircraft, please forward this information to the present owner/operator and notify Cub Crafters, Inc. of the address and ownership corrections.
