SAIB CE-03-37 —
What is a SAIB?
A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

INTRODUCTION This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) alerts you, an owner or operator of Zenair Ltd. CH2000 airplanes with serial numbers 20-002 and up, that Zenair Ltd. has issued Service Letter January 06 03, dated January 6, 2003. This service letter provides for replacement of the operational limitation placard. The new placard includes the following:
AVOID SIDESLIPS USING LARGE RUDDER INPUTS
BACKGROUND The Zenair Ltd. service letter was written because the CH2000 may experience a minor pitch oscillation, a significant nose-down pitching tendency, or both, when sideslipping using large rudder inputs.
Section 4, Page 4-6 of Revision 14 of the Flight Manual, issued November 4, 2002, was updated to read as follows:
NOTE: Sideslips using large rudder inputs MAY be accompanied by a minor pitch oscillation and/or a significant nose-down pitching tendency. A strong, aft longitudinal control force may be required to hold the nose up.
Very large, abrupt, rudder pedal inputs can result in abrupt nose-down pitching tendencies unless appropriate aft stick pressure is applied. These maneuvers serve no useful purpose and should be avoided.
RECOMMENDATION We are recommending, but not requiring, that owners/operators of Zenair Ltd. CH2000 airplanes replace the operational limitation placard per Zenair Ltd. Service Letter January 06 03, dated January 6, 2003.
