SAIB CE-04-07 Current Issued 10/22/2003 SOCATA TB 20 | TB 21

What is a SAIB?

A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

No. CE-04-07 October 22, 2003 www.faa.gov - Search "SAIBs" This is information only. Recommendations are not mandatory.

Introduction This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) alerts you, an owner or operator of SOCATA TB 20 and TB 21 airplanes, that SOCATA has issued Service Bulletin (SB) No. 10-135, dated April 2003, “Pitch Trim Actuator Check and Repair.” The French DGAC has issued an Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2003-286(A), dated August 06, 2003, referencing SB 10-135. This SB specifies the following aircraft as having a non conformity of tightness seals:

Models Serial Numbers 2042 2050 2056-2118 2123-2125 TB 20 and TB 21 2144

Background Non conformity of tightness seals can produce icing inside the pitch trim actuator.

Recommendation We are recommending, but not requiring, that owners and operators of SOCATA TB 20 and TB 21 airplanes referenced above accomplish a scheduled inspection in the next 100 hours and at the latest by December 31, 2003. If required, we recommend you replace the pitch trim actuator tightness seals as stated in SOCATA SB 10-135, dated April 2003.
