Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin alerts you, owners and operators of Zenair Ltd. CH2000 airplanes, that Zenair Ltd. has issued Service Letter May 10 03 regarding cracks in the exhaust assembly.

Background

Cracks were found in the exhaust assembly of a Zenair Ltd. CH2000 when the assembly had less than 100 hours time in service since new. Zenair determined that these cracks were due to excessive engine vibration and recommended that the operator perform a dynamic propeller balance.

The service letter contains instructions for replacing the one-piece cabin heat shroud with a two-piece shroud. This modification will allow easier checks for cracks in the muffler. The service letter also contains instructions for dynamically balancing the propeller to minimize engine vibration.

Recommendation

We recommend that you comply with Zenair’s Service Letter May 10 03.
