Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin alerts you, owners and operators of Scheibe-Flugzeugbau GmbH model SF-34-B sailplanes, serial numbers 5122 through 5141, that the German civil aviation office Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA) has issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2002-044, dated February 21, 2002. This AD references Scheibe Service Bulletin (SB) 336-10, which addresses an inspection and possible modification of the rear control stick assembly.

Background

Scheibe has issued SB 336-10, dated November 7, 2001, which describes inspection and modification procedures for repair (if required) of the rear cockpit control stick. The model SF-34 isn't affected by these corrective actions.

Recommendation

Foreign ADs aren't considered mandatory actions on U.S. aircraft. The model SF-34-B isn't type certificated in the United States; therefore it doesn't qualify for domestic AD action. However, we recommend all owners and operators comply with actions outlined in the specified service bulletin.
