Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) alerts you, owners and operators of Aeromot-Industria models (see Table 1), that the Brazilian Airworthiness Authority, has issued foreign Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2004-11- 05, effective November 29, 2004. This AD calls for the inspection and replacement of the nut and bolt installed on each main landing gear torque link. Aeromot has issued Service Bulletin (SB) 200-32-100 (attached), which details the maintenance procedures.

Background

During a landing, a critical fastener (nut) within the main landing gear assembly became loose resulting in rotation of the movable leg and damage to the landing gear structure. The nut, P/N 5PA-108, installed at the torque link, connects the movable leg to the fixed strut of the main landing gear.

Recommendation

We recommend that you accomplish the actions listed in the SB. However, in lieu of recurring inspections, we recommend replacing the fastener assembly as outlined in Part II of Aeromot’s SB. The SB is also available on line at: http://www.aeromot.com.br/english/sb/sb- 0100_in.pdf

1.2 Reason. One case of loosening of the nut P/N 5PA-108, installed at the torque link, which connects the movable leg to the fixed strut of the landing gear, has occurred during landing and bolt P/N UNBRAKO-6, dropped causing a rotation of the movable strut of landing gear and damages on it. 1.3 Description This Service Bulletin describes the inspection of nuts P/N 5PA-108 and bolts P/N UNBRAKO-6 installed at landing gear torque links (RH and LH). The inspection must be performed before the next flight and in each pre-flight inspection (Part I of this Service Bulletin). As a final solution, nuts and bolts originally installed must be replaced by new bolts with castellated nuts and cotter pins, in the maximum stated period of 30 landings (Part II of this Service Bulletin). 1.4 Approval

2. Accomplishment Instructions. 2.1 Parts I - Inspection of fitting bolt installation at the torque link assembly. 2.1.1 Before the next flight inspect the bolt P/N UNBRAKO-6 (IPC fig. 2 item 22) to check if self locking nut P/N 5PA-108 (item 25) is loosen or without its paint lock. 2.1.2 If the self locking nut is loosen, replace the nut by a new one and install it applying a torque of 30 to 40 lb-in. Apply new paint lock. 2.1.3 Repeat the inspection at each pre-flight inspection. The application of Part II of this Service Bulletin must be scheduled within the maximum stated period of 30 landings. 2.2 Parts II – New Lock Washer installation. 2.2.1 Check if the parking brake is applied and install the wooden wedges at the main landing gear wheels. 2.2.2 Remove bolts P/N UNBRAKO-6, washers P/N ZU-5 and ZU-6, spacers P/N 32374 and nuts P/N 5PA-108 from torque link assembly of main landing gear (LH and RH). 2.2.3 Clean the torque link assemblies (LH and RH). 2.2.4 Remove bushings P/N MB 06-10 DU from torque links using tool as shown in figure 1 or other equivalent method.

NOTE: It not necessary to remove the torque link assy from main landing gear. 2.2.5 Install new bushings P/N 32392 using the same tool as shown in figure 2 or other equivalent method. 2.2.6 Install at torque links of main landing gears (LH and RH), bolts P/N AN4-13, spacers P/N 32391, washers P/N AN960-416, nuts P/N AN310-4 and lock them with cotter pins P/N AN380-2-3 assuring a clearance of 0,1 to 0,3 mm between the torque link, as shown in figure 3.

2.2.7 Record the Service Bulletin application in the Airframe Log Book.
