Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin alerts you, owners and operatos of Rolladen-Schneider model LS4-b sailplanes, that the manufacturer has issued Technical Bulletin numbers 4046 and 4047, to address a safety concern. These bulletins identify updates to the Flight and Maintenance manuals, procedures to increase the weight of non-lifting parts, and an inspection sequence to increase the sailplane service life.

Background

The German Airworthiness Authority, has issued Airworthiness Directive D-2004-001, which requires implementation of the above- mentioned technical notes for owners in Germany. The LS4-b is not type certificated in the US and therefore does not meet the criteria for mandatory action. We are providing this information as a courtesy to our owners of these sailplanes. Recommendation

We recommend that you do the actions of the stated technical notes upon receipt of this bulletin.
