Recurring cracks in the landing gear

Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin advises you of an alternative method of compliance (AMOC) for Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2005-12-09, which applies to Grob Model G120A airplanes.

Background

Due to recurring cracks in the landing gear, Grob issued service bulletin MSB1121-055 to require inspections of the affected areas. The Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA), which is the German airworthiness authority, issued German AD AD-2004-514 concerning this issue with subsequent European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) AD 2004-12065.

Grob revised this service bulletin to MSB1121-055/1, which provides a part of new design that, when installed, could eliminate the need for the recurring inspections called in the original service bulletin and FAA AD 2005- 12-09. Recommendation

It is recommended that, if possible, you do the modification in Grob Service Bulletin MSB1121-055/1 as terminating action for the repetitive inspections required by AD 2005- 12-09.
