Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) informs registered owners/operators of M7 Aerospace LLC Models SA226-T/-T(B)/-AT/-TC, SA227-TT/-AT/-AC/-BC, and SA227-CC/-DC airplanes (under Type Certificate Data Sheets A5SW, A8SW and A18SW) of an airworthiness concern. Specifically, this SAIB provides enhanced inspection procedures and maintenance practices for the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) aileron control system for affected airplanes.

This SAIB revision corrects the reference to Service Bulletin (SB) 226-27-076. It previously was referenced incorrectly as SB 226-27-078.

At this time, this airworthiness concern has not been determined to be an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part 39.

Background

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) received a report of a LH aileron rod end failure. In response, M7 Aerospace LLC issued SA226/SA227 series Service Bulletins (SB) 226-27-076 for all SA226 series airplanes, SB 227-27-056 for all SA227 series airplanes, and SB CC7-27-028 for all Commuter Category SA227-CC/DC series airplanes. The SBs provide owners and operators instructions for inspecting the LH and RH aileron link rods, bellcrank, and hinge bracket for wear and damage. The SB information reinforces existing aileron control system inspection and rigging checks in the applicable aircraft maintenance manuals and supplements inspections required at phase and letter checks in the applicable inspection manuals.

M7 Aerospace LLC has also issued associated SBs 226-27-075 for all SA226 series airplanes, SB 227-27-055 for all SA227 series airplanes, and SB CC7-27-027 for all Commuter Category SA227- CC/DC series airplanes to check the friction in certain aileron control system rod end bearings. The manufacturer recommends complying with both bulletins concurrently for the applicable airplane model.

Recommendations

The FAA recommends M7 Aerospace LLC SA226 and SA227 (specific models referenced above) airplane owners have the procedures in the above-referenced applicable service bulletins accomplished in conjunction with the existing requirements and procedures in the applicable inspection and maintenance manuals.
