Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) is written to inform the public about an approved alternative method of compliance (AMOC) to an airworthiness directive (AD) and how to obtain a copy of the Textron global AMOC (aka; AMOC of general applicability) to AD 2018-06-11 against Textron Aviation Inc. Models A36TC, B36TC, S35, V35, V35A, and V35B airplanes.

Background

AD 2018-06-11 adds a life limit to the exhaust tailpipe v-band coupling that attaches the exhaust tailpipe to the turbocharger and requires an annual visual inspection of the exhaust tailpipe v-band coupling on the above referenced airplanes. The AD specifically requires the use of Textron Aviation Inc., formerly Beechcraft Corporation, type design part numbers for those exhaust tailpipe v-band couplings that are required to be replaced per the AD.

It has come to our attention that some of the type design part numbers called for in the AD are not available in sufficient number to preclude the grounding of some airplanes. After review of the Textron type design data, it has been determined that there is a standard specification part number exhaust tailpipe v-band coupling suitable for use in lieu of some of the AD required part numbers. Per the global AMOC, the S1921-1 part number is a suitable alternate for three of the part numbers specified in the AD. This global AMOC does not apply to airplanes equipped with STC SA1035WE.

Recommendations

The intent of this SAIB is to announce the availability of Textron Aviation Inc. global AMOC for AD 2018-06-11, dated July 11, 2018. The global AMOC for AD 2018-06-11, is included as an attachment to this SAIB and may facilitate your compliance with AD 2018-06-11 by allowing the use of the alternative S1921-1 part number for some of the AD affected airplane models.
