Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin advises you, owners and operators of Bombardier Inc. Models CL 600-2B19 (CRJ-100/200/440); CL 600-2C10, -2D15 and -2D24 (CRJ-700/705/900) airplanes, that operators have reported cracking of the Brake System Accumulators, part number 08-60163- 002 which could result in separation of the end cap with subsequent loss pf pressure of the affected system and possible damage to the surrounding systems and structure . Bombardier is undertaking an engineering investigation to address the root causes of this issue.

Background

Bombardier has issued Service Letters (SLs) listed in table 1, to recommend visual inspection of the brake accumulators to detect possible cracking of a hydraulic braking system accumulator screw cap. Bombardier issued the SLs to mitigate the risk of an event and to obtain additional data for the investigation.

Recommendation

We strongly recommend that you implement the contents of Bombardier’s SLs listed in table one. We have determined that an AD is not warranted at this time.
