Live Wire · press feed

The press cycle, faithfully attributed.

Aviation events reported in the news — crashes, incidents, near misses, investigations — refreshed hourly. NTSB CAROL records typically follow in 3-7 days for accident-class events; this surface fills that gap and also captures the events the NTSB never investigates (diversions, emergency landings, runway incursions).

Press-reported aviation accidents from the last 30 days, older than 24 hours. Many will already have NTSB preliminary records published — check the NTSB CAROL block for agency-confirmed events.

Methodology

Every hour, an automated job queries Google News RSS for ~15 broad aviation crash terms ("plane crash", "helicopter crash", "small plane down", etc.), filters the results through an aviation-topic gate to drop drift (car crashes near airports, movie titles, etc.), dedupes by article URL, and lightly clusters by normalized headline so multiple outlets covering the same crash appear as one entry.

What this surface intentionally does NOT do: claim agency authority, match to specific NTSB events, or extract aircraft type beyond what the headline literally says. News reports get aircraft type wrong constantly. We surface what the press said with attribution and let the NTSB record speak for itself when it lands.

Reports roll off after 30 days. The Live Wire section above covers the last 24 hours; the archive covers older entries within the window.
