Probable cause & findings

the pilot misjudged the flare. Lack of total experience was a factor.

Factual narrative

On August 23, 1995, at 1000 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 152, N94891, was substantially damaged during landing at Willow Run Airport, Ypsilanti, Michigan. The student pilot received no injuries. The 14 CFR Part 91 flight departed Willow Run Airport on a local solo student flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The pilot reported that it was his first solo flight. He stated that his pattern legs looked good and when he rolled out on final everything was okay. He reported his landing was hard. He bounced twice and lost control, damaging the aircraft. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT IT WAS HIS FIRST SOLO FLIGHT. ALL HIS PATTERN LEGS LOOKED GOOD AND WHEN HE ROLLED OUT ON FINAL EVERYTHING WAS OKAY.
