Factual narrative

On June 30, 1999, at 1345 eastern standard time (est), a Cessna 172R, N2632Y, piloted by a student pilot, sustained substantial damage during landing at the Kokomo Municipal Airport, Kokomo, Indiana. The 14 CFR Part 91 instructional flight was not operating on a flight plan. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The student pilot, who was the sole occupant, reported no injuries. The local flight originated approximately 1335 est. The student pilot was performing his first solo takeoff and landing. After landing, the aircraft veered off the left side of runway 23 (5201 feet by 150 feet, dry asphalt) and struck the VOR station with the left wing and the nose of the aircraft.
