Probable cause & findings
the student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll, which resulted in the airplane departing the runway, and impacting with a ditch.
Factual narrative
On August 30, 2003, about 1320 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 152, N93193, owned by N93193 Inc., and operated by Aeromax Inc., departed the runway and impacted with a ditch during the takeoff roll at the Ocala Regional Airport, Ocala, Florida. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time, and no flight plan was filed. The instructional flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91. The airplane was substantially damaged. The student pilot reported no injuries. The flight was originating at the time. According to the student pilot, on takeoff roll from runway 18, with the ailerons "neutral" and approaching an airspeed of "50 knots," the airplane "suddenly" turned to the left, and departed the runway at a 45-degree angle. The airplane came to rest after it impacted with a ditch. The pilot did not report any mechanical problems, and the accident investigation did not reveal any discrepancies with flight controls, brakes, engine or airframe.
