Aircraft involved

Probable cause & findings

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that he experienced a mild bounce during landing and that touchdown after that was smooth, but the airplane drifted to the left. He applied right rudder and added brake to counteract the drift unsuccessfully. The airplane continued to swerve left, and the right main landing gear separated from the plane which resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and right wing. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
