Factual narrative

On October 26, 1998, at 1145 central standard time, a Cessna 195, N1003D, was substantially damaged when it ground looped during the landing roll. The private pilot was not injured. The 14 CFR Part 91 flight had departed Rugby, North Dakota, on a local flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan had been filed. The pilot reported that during touchdown the airplane was "probably not lined up directly down the runway, but a little to the right. Apparently I did not apply enough right rudder, because the airplane went off the runway... ." The airplane hit a runway light and then ground looped. The pilot reported, "I would have to say this was due to pilot loss of directional control."
