SAIB ACE-97-01 —
What is a SAIB?
A Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin is an FAA-issued advisory — not mandatory like an AD, but worth knowing about. SAIBs typically flag service bulletins, manufacturer recommendations, or emerging issues that don't (yet) rise to AD level.

No. ACE-97-01 March 7, 1997
Published by: FAA, AFS-610, P.O. Box 26460, Oklahoma City, OK 73125 This is issued for informational purposes only and any recommendation for corrective action is not mandatory.
INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) is to remind registered owners of certain Cessna model airplanes of the modifications that will terminate the repetitive inspections of the engine induction airboxes in accordance with the provisions of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airworthiness Directive (AD) 85-10-02. This SAIB is being sent to registered owners of: Cessna Model 206, U206, U206A, U206B, U206C, U206D, U206E, U206F, U206G, P206, P206A, P206B, P206C, P206D, P206E, 207, 207A, 210D, 210E, 210F, 210G, 210H, 210J, 210K, 210L, 210M, and 210N airplanes.
BACKGROUND: AD 85-10-02 was issued based on reports of engine induction airbox cracks which may result in separation of a portion of the induction airbox which may obstruct induction air to the engine and result in loss of engine power. AD 85-10-02 requires: 1. A 100 hour time-in-service repetitive visual inspection of the engine induction airbox outboard duct lower skin for cracks. 2. If cracks are found, prior to further flight, replacement of the induction airbox outboard duct with a Cessna Part Number 1250725-8 duct or repair of the skin of the existing duct in accordance with the repair procedures of FAA Advisory Circular AC 43-13-1A and AC 43-13-13-2A using material at least 0.040 inches thick. 3. If the airduct is replaced or repaired as specified in the AD, the repetitive inspections are no longer required.
RECOMMENDATION: The FAA is recommending, but not requiring that rather than relying on continued repetitive inspections, owners/operators of the above Cessna airplanes either replace or repair the induction airbox outboard duct in accordance with the provisions of AD 85-10-02.
