Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin advises you, owners and operators of Alexandria Aircraft LLC (Eagle and Bellanca) DW-1 airplanes, of Eagle’s Service Letter (SL) 83-2 as an Alternative Method Of Compliance (AMOC) to Airworthiness Directive (AD) 82-22-03.

Background

AD 82-22-03 calls for the aft elevator push tube assembly (p/n 162000-16) to be replaced with a new zero service time aft elevator push tube assembly (p/n 162000-29) in accordance with Eagle Service Letter No. 82-6. The 162000-29 assembly must be replaced with another –29 assembly every 400 hours time in service thereafter. Since the issuance of the AD, Eagle developed Service Letter 83-2 that specifies that an aft elevator push tube assembly (p/n 162000-33) can be installed in place of the -16 assembly.

Recommendations

We highly recommend that you install the p/n 162000-33 aft elevator push tube assembly in accordance with SL 83-2 instead of p/n 162000-29 as directed in the original AD.

The FAA approved of Service Letter 83-2 on November 26, 2003 as an AMOC. Installing the -33 assembly constitutes a terminating action to AD 82-22-03. Compliance with SL 83-2 eliminates the requirements of SL 82-6, including the need to replace the aft elevator push tube assembly every 400 hours.
