Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin advises registered owners and operators of Bombardier, Inc. Model CL-600-2A12 (CL-601), and CL-600-2B16 (CL-601-3A, CL-601-3R, and CL-604 Variants) airplanes that activation of the wing anti-ice system during taxi and take-off could trigger nuisance wing anti-ice failed messages which will activate the master caution and could result in a rejected takeoff.

Background

Numerous reports indicate that activation of the wing anti-ice system during taxi and take-off triggered nuisance wing anti-ice failed messages. Operation of the wing anti-ice system (WAI ON during final taxi and take-off) could cause the wing anti-ice L FAIL and/or R FAIL lights to come on, activating the master caution and possibly result in a rejected take-off. Bombardier, Inc. has issued service information to provide operators with guidelines for modifying the wing anti-ice system to eliminate the nuisance L(R) FAIL signal.

At this time, the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR) part 39.

Recommendations

The FAA strongly recommends that all owners and operators of the Bombardier airplanes identified above comply with the actions outlined in Bombardier Inc. Service Bulletin 601-0608, Revision 01, dated June 27, 2011, at the earliest opportunity.
