Aircraft involved

Probable cause & findings

The pilot's failure to maintain pitch control of the airplane during the landing touchdown, which resulted in a nose over.

Factual narrative

The pilot of the tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during the landing touchdown the tail immediately lifted and the airplane nosed over on the gravel runway. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the empennage. According to the pilot there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.
