Probable cause & findings

The student pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll in gusty wind conditions, which resulted in a runway excursion and nose over.

Factual narrative

The solo student pilot reported that during the landing roll he encountered a wind shift and quartering tailwind gusts. The student pilot further reported that he lost directional control within the last 200 feet of runway remaining and the airplane departed the runway to the left. During the runway excursion, the airplane nosed over after rolling down a steep embankment. The fuselage and elevator were substantially damaged. The student pilot did not report any mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
