Probable cause & findings

The pilot's delay in aborting the landing, which resulted in a collision with a fence.

Factual narrative

According to the pilot, he landed on runway 24, a 3,481-foot runway. The pilot stated that the airplane "touched down too far down the runway." He advanced the throttle and attempted to take off in order to clear a fence at the end of the runway. However, the airplane impacted the top of the fence, crossed a road, hit another fence, and came to rest against a building. The firewall, horizontal stabilizer, and both wings were substantially damaged. The pilot did not report any mechanical failures or malfunctions of the airplane. The winds reported at the airport about the time of the accident were from 330 degrees at 6 knots. According to the pilot, he touched down on the runway further down than he intended. He advanced the throttle in an attempt to clear a fence at the end of the runway and abort the landing. The airplane impacted the top of the fence, crossed a road, collided with another fence, and came to rest against a building. The firewall, horizontal stabilizer, and both wings were substantially damaged. The pilot reported no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions of the airplane.
