Aircraft involved

Probable cause & findings

The pilot’s failure to extend the landing gear prior to landing.

Factual narrative

The pilot reported that he was performing a short field landing. The pilot stated that he completed the prelanding checks, but he did not extend the landing gear prior to touchdown on the runway. The airplane came to rest upright on the runway with the landing gear retracted, resulting in substantial damage to the lower fuselage. The pilot further stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
